5 BEST ALTERNATIVES TO goo.gl
URL shorteners are unique tools used to reduce a bulky, lengthy
link to another that can be easily typed, copied and pasted and even remembered;
the shortened link still opens the same webpage as the original lengthy link when
loaded. URL shorteners not only reduce the length of your links. Some
shorteners give you the opportunity to track your links, get data of those that
are clicking your links, and monitor traffic source (for example, you create 3
shortened links of one URL and post on three different social media. You can
keep record of where you acquire the highest/lowest surge of traffic). These
features have to be paid for, though for some URL shorteners.
Imagine wanting to
share a link to a friend via text message or on twitter and after “copy-pasting”,
some part of the link is cut out because you’ve exceeded the text limit.
Frustrating yea? Say you want to share this link:

URL shorteners practically
convert them to something like:
https://pee.ng/iSfiS
One of the most popular URL shorteners, goo.gl, by Google is
to be discontinued by March 2019. There are a whole lot of other shorteners with
great features for different business scales. In this post, you’ll be reading
about five (5) great URL shorteners that can effortlessly serve as an alternative to
Google’s goo.gl.
5 Pee.ng
Pee.ng is a simple URL shortener that allows you shorten
your links with or without signing in. It includes a semantic feature that
shows you the number of clicks a link you shortened has gotten and the browsers used to access the link. Of course, to
access this feature, you need to sign in. You also get email notifications for
every link clicked. It’s one of my personal favourites.
4 Is.gd
The URL shortening experience provided by Is.gd is one of
the simplest as it just allows you to shorten your links without signing in and
going through any human verification processes (CAPTCHA). There are no real
features so if you just want to shorten your links and not care about tracking
the links, try Is.gd.
3 Bit.do
Bit.do is a unique alternative that’s powerful and simple at
the same time. Apart from shortening your links with or without an account, you
can use this service with your custom domain name, get real-time data and even
see the countries where your clicks are coming from.
2 TinyUrl
TinyUrl remains one of the top URL shorteners that gets the
job done for most and helps them keep track of their links too. Shortened URLs
here can be customized by the user. TinyUrl’s links are usually longer than
links from other URL shorteners.
1 Bitly
Bitly is, if I’m not mistaken, the largest alternative to
goo.gl and it provides users with a limited free account where you can shorten
links and explore few of its features. To unlock the full potentials of Bitly’s
features, you’ll need to upgrade your account. URLs shortened with this tool
begin with a “bit.ly” prefix and the letters after the forward slash can be
customized by the user. It’s mainly for large businesses but you could also
give it a try. One thing I love especially is Bitly’s user friendliness.
WRAPPING UP
Most shortened URLs don’t expire and some are subject to some kind of alterations much later so it’s better to review the terms and conditions of operations of these powerful tools.
